Great Game |
This is the first time we have purchased a Madden game, and I greatly enjoy it. The gameplay is relatively smooth, and usually works well with my computer. If you have a PS2 or 3, I would recommend you get Madden for that, because although the game works fine and is very enjoyable, it has frozen up on me a lot when playing multiplayer. I would also recommend that you get dual-analog controllers with the game, because it is far easier to play with them than using the keyboard.
I have a Geforce 8300 GS graphics card, and I run the game on Windows Vista.
Performance has been steady, and slowups have not been an issue.
The game was great overall, and I just hope EA decides to make NCAA Football 09 for PC as well.

For widescreen gamers |
I don't think anyone else mentioned that Madden 08 has widescreen support. They always neglected us widescreen gamers over at EA Sports, but they finally added one game with widescreen support.
The widescreen support in this game DOES work, and it works well. It's the last of the franchise for the PC but at least they gave it widescreen support.
The rest of the game is what you would expect: Not much has changed from the previous versions, a few minor additions here and there. As always, a good game of football.
I am not sure why they decided to use the last-gen version of the game for the PC, rather than using the version on the next gen consoles. If you didn't know already, they use the PS2 version of the game. Considering the computer can outperform any console in every way, it seems they would offer all the advantages to the PC.
The main feature of this new addition is the widescreen support. Since no one else mentioned it, thought it would be good to let us widescreen gamers know about it.
Shame to see you leave the PC Madden! |

Too Bad It's Over |
I have enjoyed the PC version of Madden NFL for many years. I am quite disappointed they have discontinued the PC version.
Madden NFL 08 is very fun to play. Play calling is simple and direct. Game play is smooth and fast. Both offensively and defensively there are multiple audible options after a play has been called. The playbooks and audibles are highly customizable.
The graphics are nice at the highest settings. There are multiple graphics levels which helps improve game speed if you have a slower PC.
Owner mode is fun as well. Building and improving a team through the draft and free agency is entertaining. One complaint about the draft - you have a limited number of scouting attempts. So you can't gain much information about any of the available players pre-draft. This does not seem right considering how much time and money real NFL teams spend analyzing players before the draft. |

Pretty good, but not perfect |
|
Good, but not great graphics, I hate when players run then fall on their own (I don't know if this is my controller doing this). Lots of cool features, all time teams, create a team etc. Pretty good, intuitive playability, but not great. Four or 4.25 stars I would say. Overall, I'm pleased and would recommend. |

Stick with Madden 2007 |
You may by now have heard that EA has killed Madden for the PC, and you are looking to buy a copy before it goes completely extinct. I'll keep this short and mildly enraged- Madden 2008 is the same program, but somehow with MORE bugs than 2007. How they did that I don't know. They clearly never cared about the PC game. The same stupid bugs appeared year after year, like a department store Santa with syphillus. But I bought both programs and compared them and Madden 2008 is now in the garbage.
For what it's worth. |
