Satisfied |
I'm happy with my new Excell 2800. The wheels are not plastic like some of the earlier models. The wand is plastic but doesn't seem fragile as one report indicated. My 2800 was delivered in order and to my surprise started on the very first crank (no oil issues). All around seems like a very good value.

Same problems as others and then some |
Just like everyone else, I had to deal with crankcase oil that spilled during shipment. Thank goodness for the comments left by others in this regard. The shipping container was soaked with oil, which was my second clue. I replaced the air filter with the one from my Honda lawnmower to make sure the engine started, which it did. I then bought a replacement air filter and continued.
The chemical hose comes tightly coiled and would not relax enough to allow the end of the hose to sit on the bottom of my jug of deck cleaner. After cutting a piece of 1/2 inch copper tubing an inch longer than the jug is deep, I pulled the strainer off the end of the clear plastic chemical draw tube, fed it through the copper tube and replaced the strainer. The end of the tube now sits at the bottom of the jug.
The connection between the high pressure hose and the spray gun leaks badly, soaking me when I used it. I added a 50' aftermarket hose between the supplied hose and the spray gun. This did not stop the leak, but moved it far enough away from me so that at least I didn't get soaked. However, the extra length of hose prevents the chemical pump from working correctly, which was confirmed by the troubleshooting guide. If this was the only problem, I would replace the fittings on the 50' hose so that I can use it without the original 25' hose, which has different fittings.
However, after five minutes of use, the trigger on the spray gun malfunctioned, locking the spray in the "on" position. I cannot get it to disengage. No, it's not the trigger lock. I disassembled the spray gun and found the plunger in the on/off valve is frozen and won't return to the off position.
Marketadvisory.com won't accept returns of gas powered equipment (read the notice carefully) and won't arrange to swap just the hose and spray gun. I will have to deal with the manufacturer directly. I can only hope it works out before I have to pay my VISA bill.
On the other hand, for the first five minutes, it worked well. Just be sure to budget for a new air filter, and hope that's the leaking oil is the only problem you experience. |

Magic Wand |
Two problems. During shipping the crate must have spent some time on it's side as the cylinder was full of engine oil and hydrau-locked. Needed a plug out purge and now only runs with the air filter out. Not a fault of Excell though.
However, during the first use the gun/wand were dropped onto grass from waist height and the wand bent. On trying to straighten it the wand broke off. Pressure delivery tube in the centre of the gun has been threaded on the end to accept a brass coupler and the die-cut threads are almost through to the inside diameter of the tube so no wall thickness and a subsequent weak spot.
DeWalt/Excell reluctantly replaced the $50 gun but it still feels inherently weak and flexes under normal use. Otherwise the rest of the rig is heavy duty and the Honda motor runs well.

DO NOT SHIP WITH OIL IN THE ENGINE!!! |
|
My unit was also turned upside down and oil was everywhere. After a week of trying, I finally got the engine to run. I had to remove the carb fuel bowl to dump the oil, the air filter and housing was full of oil and the spark plug was fowled. Quite the mess I would not have expected. As was stated by another disappointed review, common sense says send the oil in a bottle for the user to install. |
