Cricut Machine not all it's hyped up to be! |
|
I bought this machine thinking it was the "do all end all" in scrapbooking but it turned out to be a real "money pit"! The cutting matts wear out way to quickly, as do the cutting blades. The cartridges are so expensive that I have to limit my purchases to one or two a year if they are on sale in Wal-Mart. Also I get "no where" witht he company. Oh, if I have little comments they are fine, but they keep sending me "survey's" to take and rate new products..I get no where with these. They "offer prizes" to people who won the surveys but for some reason "my survey's" never get accepted or I am unable to "submit" them. I have complained to the company and all they tell me is that they are too busy or have had overwhelming responses. So I ask them to "resend" me the survey and it's never the same one with the "good prizes"! I have also requested a list of their "survey winners" and they have refused to send me the list, which I have heard is required by law. I think their surveys are just an info gathering skeem and I am seriously thinking of filing a complaint with the Utah Attorney General. Since they seem to ignor me when I make a serious request of any thing. I feel the program cartridges are way to expensive for what you get. Most are "child" orineted and I am not interested in that type of program. I thought this machine would be great for card making, which it is, but it is so limited on the designs you can get that pertain to adults! I too watched the infomercials on TV with this machine and saw all the great creations but I am guessing you have to "buy" almost all the cartridges they have to offer to make even a quarter of the projects that they demonstrated on that commercial! All in all..I like the machine but it is way too expensive to use for very many projects..so it sits for special occassions. |

I love my cricut! |
|
My husband got me the Cricut for my birthday and I'm having a ball with it. It's great for titles - you just make what you need. (You can only use so many q's and z's!)If you can only afford one cartridge at first, I recommend the doodlecharm. It has something for each season and makes a nice sampler. |

Not quite what I was expecting |
After seeing the commercial I was excited to order the Cricut but quickly found out the informercial was a little misleading. They claim that the machine is light-weight and I have to disagreee. They should state the number of pounds it weighs on its website. When I called customer service to return the machine I mentioned this and they explained that compared to their other model, this personal version is light-weight.
The infomercial also states that each cartridge has around 4500 images but I didn't find that the case unless you count the different font sizes as a separate image. If you really want to try the Cricut I would try buying it off Craigslist and then borrowing cartridges from other people who are willing to share, otherwise count on spending $60 for each one. |

So easy a first grader can do it |
I bought the Cricut Personal Cutting Machine primarily for my daughter and granddaughter who are scrapbooking together. It will live at my daughter's house, but it will be available to me when I need it. (I make greeting cards.)
I easily taught my granddaughter, who is a first-grader, to use the system with adult supervision. We agreed she should tie back her long hair for safety and keep fingers clear of the working parts. With my help and supervision, she was quickly selecting shapes and sizes and cutting the shapes she wanted. She understood the use of the shift key and also the creative features.
We won't let her use the system alone until she is quite a bit older, but the user interface and operation of the machine is very simply once the machine is set up. My granddaughter was so enthusiastic about her experience that she wanted to be the one to teach her mother how to use it. We all love the Cricut. |
