This USB-A to 9-pin Serial Cable with Drivers is perfect for use with serial devices that you would want to convert to USB. This unique cable allows you to use bridge/connectivity between the Universal Serial Bus (USB) and Serial Port Interface. The USB PDA/Serial Adapter provides you with an external serial (DB- 9 male) Plug-n-Play connection for use with computers, notebooks, and hand held computing devices that support USB. The PDA/USB Serial Adapter has a standard type A USB plug. This USB PDA/Serial Adapter provides PDAs, digital cameras, modems, and ISDN terminal adapters with high quality serial connections at a data transfer rate of over 500 Kbps. This makes the USB interface transparent to serial peripherals, allowing them to easily interface with USB computers. This eliminates the setup hassle found with traditional serial port connections. This device also supports energy saving suspend and resume operations. The USB to Serial (DB9) Cable is your fast solution to utilize the peripheral with serial port in an easy-to-use environment such as plug-n-play and hot swap function. This cable provides ideal connections to Modems, PDA, Digital Camera, Label printer or ISDN terminal adapters with over 1 Mbps data transfer rate. |

Enables use of my Palm IIIc with my new HP laptop |
|
Purchased a new laptop which does not have a serial port. This item allowed me to continue to use my Palm IIIC. Setup was quick and the adapter cable works perfectly. |

Not a bad bang for the buck |
Bought some of these as I needed a serial interface into some equipment and the computers my work was building no longer had these available. Install the driver, plug in the cable, and go. Only caveat was remembering which serial port it was using.
Cable did what I needed it to do and I really can't complain. |

PL2303! |
As another reviewer pointed out, this item uses the Prolific PL-2303 chip, giving excellent support under Linux and Mac OSX. Unlike some other USB to serial adapters (such as those from Cypress), this device correctly implements hardware flow control and sets proper line voltages, ensuring full RS-232 compatibility.
Not only is it good, it's also very inexpensive. Five stars in my book. |

Don't order this item. It would be at least 30 days before you get it. |
|
This item should be listed as temporarily unavailabe. The listing says it might take an extra day to ship. My confirmation says to expect to wait at least a month. If I didn't need it now, I wouldn't have ordered it. |

I used it to connect a Garmin GPS unit to my Mac while running Parallels to update the Garmin database - worked fine. |
