Don't get it here |
|
The magazine isn't bad, but getting it through Marketadvisory (or the company who sells it through Marketadvisory) is a horrible idea. I've received maybe 2 issues since I subscribed in August 2007, and they were both late also like someone else mentioned here. Couldn't be more let down. |

Good Mag, But Don't Buy It Here |
Of the two issue I've received as part of my subscription through Marketadvisory (the "current" Nov issue and the "old" Oct issue both arrived in Nov to start my subscription ordered in Aug), I was quite pleased with the magazine content.
However, the money I saved by buying via Marketadvisory is offset by the fact that my issue arrival timing is no better than buying it in a bookstore. Many people I know who subscribe directly from php|architect finished reading their December issues back in December, and I'm still waiting for mine to just arrive (Jan 21st).
Get this magazine, but if you want new issues in a timely manner, don't go through a reseller like this. It pains me to write something like this on Marketadvisory, given my 95% happiness rate with them over many years, but this magazine subscription experience has not been a good one. |

Simply the best magazine of its kind. Contains a varied bunch of in-depth, well written articles each and every month.
The articles are written by well known and respected members of the PHP community and provide everything you need to know about the subject matter covered - which can vary from Databases to PHP-GTK.

The must have resource for PHP developers |
|
I used to buy php|architect in their PDF format, but have switched to the print edition since they started publishing it. This magazine has *a lot* more information than any PHP website I've seen. The articles are very long and incredibly in-depth--and they publish articles on topics that in many cases I haven't seen covered anywhere else. Yes, the magazine is a bit expensive, but it also has very little in the way of advertisements--and it focus exclusively on PHP, which can't be said of any other magazine out there. I doubt that the guy above even reads this mag... I say go for it, because if you're serious about PHP, it's definitely worth it! |

why a journal? |
For the full time PHP programmer, this is a nice journal to keep an eye on. It gives you an idea of recent interesting developments that involve coding in PHP.
But one might ask why a hardcopy journal, as opposed to a website? Books make sense, still, when there is a lot of material and people do tend to find learning it from hardcopy is easier than screen reading. But given the standard length of journal articles, you may want to just check out various PHP websites instead. |
