With so many other hassles to worry about, a gate should be worry-free and easy. Using the simplicity-by-design approach, the Evenflo SimpleStep pressure gate makes cordoning off stairways and rooms easy as cake. The pressure-mounted gate takes 20 minutes to install with no tools needed and is much easier than its wall-anchored counterparts. Once you install the gate, the most difficult part is over. The walk through door employs a squeeze, slide, and swing action that can be done with one hand. The red/green gate indicator tells you when the gate is properly locked. Be sure to measure your doorways before purchasing--the Evenflo gate is made for either 29-inch or 39.5-inch (with the included extension panel) openings, and the pressure mounts give you a tiny bit of slack. The Evenflo SimpleStep pressure gate is 30.5 inches in height, and the manufacturer recommended age use for children is six months to two years. --Scott Teal |

With the one-hand Slide-Loc mechanism, you simply squeeze the handle and slide back to open. | Easy to Use and Install The Evenflo SimpleStep Pressure Gate is a sturdy, lightweight metal gate in a neutral color that blends in with any décor. It is 30 inches tall and expands from 29 inches to 39-1/2 inches with the included extension panel. Featuring a a pressure-mounting system, the gate is designed for quick and easy installation: no tools, no permanent hardware to damage your walls. The pressure-mounting system also allows for more versatile installation at stairway banisters or other unusual openings. The gate is just as easy to use as it is to install. It easily opens with a special one-handed "Slide-Loc" mechanism: simply squeeze and slide the handle to open the gate. The gate also swings open, making it much easier for baby-toting parents to use. It then latches shut with a simple push. Super Safety Features The Evenflo SimpleStep Pressure Gate's red/green indicator shows whether the gate is properly locked, to give you additional peace of mind. Its slats are less than three inches apart, which is the recommended spacing for safety. To maximize the gate's safety features, make sure it is installed less than three inches from the floor. It is also recommended for use at the bottom of stairways only; the top of the stairway should be cordoned with a hardware-mounted gate.

Not the best... |

Was unimpressed with this gate. Doesn't swing/close well and doesn't fit many spaces well...leaves little room for error... |

Best walk through gate but be careful |
This gate works GREAT! It was a little tricky to install, adjusting the pressure mounts took a while to adjust as our doorway was on the outside of the 33.5 in. Once mounted, it has been extremely sturdy and is easy to open one handed if you do it right. The opening is a bit narrow (17 in.) but it's ease of use and durability make up for it. I would not use this gate to move around to different spots around the house but works great in a permanent location (without permanent holes in the wall!).
It puts up with constant shaking and rattling from my 9 month old and has even deterred my 2 1/2 year old nephew who has figured out a way around or through every other gate (because he can't figure out that you have to push buttons on both sides and then slide the latch out at the same time).
The BE CAREFUL part was that on one occasion, my son was holding on and slipped. When he fell, his arm got wedged and stuck between the bottom, outside bars where it tappers together. He didn't get hurt but wasn't coordinated enough to free himself. |

Be careful! |
|
When I first installed the gate, the pressure from the gate was too intense and punched a hole in my wall! Make sure that you install on a solid stud, or wall surface. The gate works decently for me now, but I had to purchase 4 square pieces of metal and put them between my wall and each of the pressure points on the gate. This seemed to disburse some of the pressure and prevent holes. |

Oh Baby! What a Gate! |
Love this gate, do wish it had addition sides for purchase, so I could use it in other areas.
Love the fact that it's a pressure gate, so no holes in the wall.
Though you must have either walls, or square banister rails that aline evenly for it to work properly.
Locking feature is difficult for children to open, but not for adults. As far as baby/pet gates do it is also one of the more attractive. Sturdy metal throughout.

gets the job done |
Just got 2 of these and I am very happy.
I went to the local home depot and got a few 2x4 wooden planks and installed them on the wall where the gate is. Di that to avoid the pressure mounts going into the hard walls.
The gate is easy to open and close (but not for my 3 year old), it is stable and solid. I was a little worried about tripping over the lower bar but that's not an issue as it is only 1/2 an inch (or less) high. |
