Released to coincide with the tenth anniversary of Frank Sinatra’s passing (May 14, 1998), Nothing But The Best salutes "The Voice" with an essential single-disc compilation of hits. It features 21 legendary songs from "The Chairman Of The Board," plus a previously unissued version of "Body And Soul." The collection is part of an international initiative between the newly created Frank Sinatra Enterprises (FSE), Warner Home Video, MGM Home Entertainment, Turner Classic Movies, and the United States Postal Service to honor Frank Sinatra, whose music and movies had an everlasting impact on popular culture. For a limited time, Nothing But The Best will contain a collectible, commemorative Sinatra stamp with official USPS first-day issue cancellation. If You Love Sinatra...You Will Love This |
|
I first saw this advertised for much more than listed here. I thought it was "just another Sinatra album", but then I checked out the songs. The selections are just the ones I would have wanted on a recording. If you love listening to Sinatra and setting "a mood", then you will love listening to this one...either alone or with someone special. |

It's OK ... But, Better Choices ... |

Three albums, a career-spanning collection NOT in need of any remastering as they were issued: SINATRA'S SINATRA, SEPTEMBER OF MY YEARS and THE VERY BEST OF FRANK SINATRA. |

WONDERFUL OLD TUNES |
|
Old blue eyes cranks out 22 wonderful old tunes for your entertainment with a voice strangely reminiscent of Richard Widmark or John Wayne. A perfect backdrop for an evening filled with hotdogs and beer. But don't forget the rolaids. |

The CONSUMATE bandleader IN HIS ELEMENT as a SINGER...!!! |
My personal friend, a professional studio violinist/violist in California, now retired, pointed out that, of all the conductors and bandleaders he worked under during his several decades as a professional, SINATRA was as astute as any other band leader he encountered!!!
His talents for singing, acting, and personal affairs just further amplified this.
Gaining Warner Brothers' designation of Reprise Records as his personal record label was a personal dream, and Sinatra made good use of it in so many ways, from his own work to becoming the outlet for the new wave of artists like Hendrix and Neil Young.
The earliest track in this collection identified by me is the re-recording of "Luck be a Lady" from his appearance in the 1955 Hollywood musical "Guys and Dolls". While he originally rejected his 1984 recording, arranged by Quincy Jones, of the Billie Holiday & Coleman Hawkins standard "Body & Soul", it was remastered for this recording in 2008.
Please research this and discuss it amongst yourselves!
The text by Charles Pignone and behind-the-scenes photos included in the Starbucks Records release's booklet clearly illustrate his mastery in the studio and the valuable relationships he maintained with musicians, arrangers, engineers, and producers.
The product links from the dozens of albums included in this releases Marketadvisory.com page will give you lots of background information on "Old Blue Eyes", especially if you make specific search engine queries like
discography history "frank sinatra" "Moonlight Serenade", or
discography history "frank sinatra" "The Girl From Ipanema".
Otherwise the Sinatra discography is poorly documented to my knowledge. Perhaps some the many books devoted to his career fill this wide gap. |
