Editorial Reviews for  'Something Else'

Album Description
Robin Thicke is primed and ready for Something Else. "It was like everyone was saying the same things, worried about the same things and I just felt we needed something different right now. I asked myself do I have a light? What is that light? How can I spread it, share it and turn it into a Puff Daddy white linen Miami Beach party?" After his highly acclaimed 1.5 million selling album "The Evolution of Robin Thicke" garnering the smash hit "Lost Without U", a tireless schedule of touring and appearances Robin needed to sit back, reflect on the last 2 years and start anew.

"On the last album I wanted to let people into my walk of life and connect my life to them and this album is more about involving great minds, hearts and spirits around me. When I started writing songs I was already embracing people and now I just wanted to dance and laugh with them". With that spirit driving the creative process Robin has penned some of the best songs of his career from the retro meets modern groove of the first single "Magic", the upbeat celebration of "Sidestep" to the picturesque "Dreamworld" he is taking the listener on a musical journey that is truly unique, sexy and invigorating. Something Else is exactly the kind of record that the world needs right now to feel inspired again.

Customer Reviews for  'Something Else'

Never received
Unfortunately, I never received this CD. The seller was really nice and sent my credit back promptly which was well appreciated, but my cd was lost in the mail. Always request express so you can get a tracking #. Lesson Learned:-)

Robin Rules!!!!
I love Robin Thicke!!! This album is just as good as his first one. Keep it coming Robin!!!! Love Ya!!!!

One of 2008's Best
I don't normally write reviews, but I had to make an exception here.

I didn't care much for The Evolution of Robin Thicke, but he has definitely redeemed himself with Something Else! It is rare that I purchase a CD and can listen to it from beginning to end. I love, love, LOVE this CD, and I think he deserves a Grammy (or two) for this great musical accomplishment!

An intentional step "backward" in the evolutionary process!!
At first listen, it would seem that Robin Thicke's "Something Else" is not up to par with his last effort, the million-selling "Evolution of Robin Thicke." It's shorter in running time than its predecessor and does not rely as much on guest artists as did "Evolution."

However, it is the brevity of the album and Thicke's concentration on delivering a tight collection of tunes that makes the new release equal to the one before it.

Thicke, obviously, wants to pay tribute to those that came before by crafting songs that could easily have been done by the likes of Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, James Brown, and even Robert Palmer.

The singer really comes through on the uptempo as well as the ballads. Thicke served as solo writer or co-writer on all of the songs and his skills are improving in both the vocals and the lyrics.

Because it is "something else," the album may not be as commercially successful as "Evolution," but listeners with a good ear will be satisfied with this tribute album.

Best cuts:
"Cry No More"
"Loverman"
the 70's sounding "Magic"
"Ms. Harmony"
the R-Kelly-like "Sidestep"
the straight-from-the-80's title cut
"You're My Baby"
"The Sweetest Love"

Soulful and Passionate
This is my first Robin Thicke CD, and I suspect it will not be my last. He takes his mother's talent and runs with it. I can listen to this over and over and hear something new each time.
