Despite the number of guests on hand, Dr. Dre's decade-/century-/millennium-ending sequel to The Chronic is, like its predecessor, less a stack of posse cuts and more an elegantly seamless work from West Coast hip-hop's premier auteur. Deliberately cinematic in everything from its mix of moods to dramatic musical surges, 2001 is Dre's assessment of the gangsta life in medium shots. No longer fully immersed in violence and random sex, yet aware of their attraction, he often lets his guests blow steam about whatever's on their minds. When he takes stock of gangbanging circa late '99, though, he drops his neutral tone; he even provides another half-joking but stern warning to protégé Eminem on "What's the Difference." Between his discovery of Slim Shady, visits from old pal Snoop Dogg, and, most of all, the masterful sound and flow of this CD, Dre should shut down all talk of his supposed irrelevance. --Rickey Wright |

the king of beats |
|
this album might have the best beats of any CD ive ever heard. Dr dre has a gift for mixing gangster beats with his unprecedented swag. Tracks like "xxplosive" and "murder ink" show the hardcore side of dre and this album is an unarguable classic. If you like dr dre, check out FACE, a new artist who just released his first demo and who is releasing his first original album later in 2010. FACE has a lot of talent and great flow to his lyrics. check him out at: [...] |

2001 and it's 2009 |
Dr. Dre's 2001 still gets bump in my trunk--not just me because you can still hear this gettin' play on the radio waves and peoples cd players! I can't wait til Detox finally releases. Like the title says 2001 and it's 2009 and i'm still listenin to this rap classic!
back when this first release in 1999 everybody was rockin' this joint! i mean everybody was! i bought it back in 1999 and i know im only now just gettin' around to a review but after listenin' to it today i was thinkin to myself i need to hit up amazon and let people know!
Dr. Dre is by far the Greatest Producer EVER! Every beat on every track is sauce! They all got that #1 hit feel 2 it! Besides that, Dr. Dre is a very talented rapper! |

Dre still kicking the beats |
You either like music/rap like this or it grates on your nerves. This is an excellent follow-up to The Chronic and delivers raps of the same high quality with catchy beats, interesting lyrics, and dance worthy music.
