If Continuum, the second feature length, made-for-DVD film spun off from the long-running Stargate SG-1 television series, marks the end of this wing of the franchise--and it is hardly a certainty, given the show’s Lazarus-like history--then all involved, including the viewer, should be well satisfied. Continuum commingles all the elements that have made Stargate so eminently watchable over the years, including engaging characters and storyline, plenty of action, impressive sets, and first-rate special effects. This time the whole gang is on hand, as the most recent SG-1 contigent (Ben Browder as fearless leader Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell, Amanda Tapping as the brainy Lt. Col. Samantha Carter, Christopher Judge as the implacable alien Teal’c, Michael Shanks as the ever-resourceful Dr. Daniel Jackson, and Claudia Black as the irreverent, motor-mouthed Vala) is joined by characters whose roles had been reduced or eliminated along the way; principal among the latter is Richard Dean Anderson, whose Major General Jack O’Neill makes a welcome return after sitting out The Ark of Truth, the first post-series film (both of Stargate Command’s head honchos, played by Beau Bridges and the late Don S. Davis, are also back). The villain is familiar as well: Ba’al (Cliff Simon), the last of the "Goa’uld system lords," who’s scheduled to be executed--or, more specifically, "extracted," whereby the bad mojo inside him will be exorcised. Things don’t quite go as planned, of course. Ba’al has managed to manipulate time, creating a situation where Mitchell, Jackson, and Carter find themselves caught in a paradox, an alternate timeline in which the Stargate program never even existed, making it easy for the bad guy and his gigantic space brigade to launch an all-out attack on Earth (though long-threatened throughout the series, such an invasion never actually happened until now). Our heroes’ intrepid efforts to thwart Ba’al’s dastardly scheme take them from the Arctic (for real) to the cockpits of F-15 jets and even the hold of a 1930s cargo ship (built specially for the occasion). All this, and Browder portraying his own grandfather too? Yo, Stargate: Continuum rocks! --Sam Graham

Long time SG1 fans, movie lived up to my expectations. Loved it, can't wait for the next one.

Stargate SG1...Continuum
I enjoyed the movie, the only complaint I have is.......please let O'neill and Carter get together....at last! They have come so close and still are bound by military regulations.

Excellent fun!
The Ark of Truth was an o.k. movie. I liked it because it is Stargate and because I wanted to see the actors again. Continuum, on the other hand, is superb. The story is great, the actors are fabulous - that's what SG1 was all about a couple of years ago.

Pretty Darn Good
This is the second movie after the conclusion of SG-1. It is a little more like a movie (rather than a long episode) because they are not finishing a story arc from the series. Admitedly, they're still dealing with pre-established characters and situations.

It starts off with the team (and Jack O'Neill--hooray!) going to watch Baal, the last of the system lords, being forcibly removed from his host. Baal tells the team that he is actually the last clone of Baal and that the real Baal has something special planned now that the final cloned symbiote is about to die. Now the team, used to this sort of nonsense from Baal, don't believe him (I wouldn't either). But then Teal'c disappears into thin air (casting darker doubts upon Vala's sudden absence from moments before).

Now, I don't want to spoil anything for anyone so I'm just going to tell you what you ought to know from the cover anyway. It involves time travel and an alternate timeline. We see many familiar faces too, including some of the other system lords and Hammond. And, as always, there is lots of typical stargate comedy.

Having said this much, I assume that those who have seen the series (seasons one through ten) will be able to imagine what sorts of events go on (even if the particulars aren't all laid out for them). Those who have not will be surprised (if perhaps a little confused). As always, it helps in the watching of this film if you have a solid background with the characters and the events of the TV series.

I must say that I enjoyed it very much and would suspect that many sci-fi fans would be able to jump right in and see it. Hope you like it too.
