pixos starter kit
My 10 year old daughter bought this product. She really enjoys making the projects. I agree with the other reviewers about the pen, its useless. You can put the pixos on the template easier by hand. Sometimes the pixos get stuck in the pen and you have to give it a shake to get it out and then it may not land where you want it to or you might click it again thinking one didnt come out and then 2 fall out. I suggest doing it by hand. The pixo tool on the other end of the pen is neat tho. It's kinda tacky and picks up the pixos if you put them in the wrong place or used the wrong color. I dont think it is for younger kids unless they have a lot of patience and enjoy taking time to make a project. My daughter sprayed a lot of water on her creations and some of them did come apart but we didnt try and wait a day. She waited a few hours. We'll wait longer before picking them up to see if that helps. There are different templates for different creations so you have to make sure you use the right ones or your beads wont line up correctly. My daughter came to me saying one creation she was making was really hard, but I soon discovered that she had simply used the wrong template for her card and she had to redo it.

Actually really fun!
My daughter received this for her 6th birthday. I had seen the awful reviews online and did not hold out a lot of hope for the product. But, she loves it and it actually works fairly well. Yes, it is true that the designs take some time to dry. We have found that the designs work best when allowed ample amount of time to dry; we've been putting them outside. And, as previous reviewers have commented, the designs need more water than one would think to stick together; we've actually had to spray a couple of them twice to get the entire design to stick. Overall, the designs take about 45 to 90 minutes to dry.

Take note that we've had this product less than 24 hours and we are already out of Pixos. 500 dots is not a lot. My daughter made about 8-10 3" designs and we now need refills, so purchase some refills in advance!

Overall, we really enjoy this activity and it has kept my daughter occupied for hours.

That's right...the pen is useless...but the rest is pretty good
My kids are 7 and 10 and are currently enjoying Pixos (nee Aquadots). The first thing I learned about this product is that the pen is absolutely useless. I mean, completely useless. The second thing I learned about this product is that it is pretty expensive for what you get. There are not nearly enough pixos dots to keep the kids going with design after design. (And that is what brought me to Marketadvisory to see if I could find a set with just the dots only.) That being said, once you get over the useless pen, this is an art project that my kids can do by themselves...completely...and to me that's worth a lot. They place the templates, place the beads, spray the design and wait for their masterpiece to dry...all by themselves. Yes, unlike the plastic beads that require ironing, this product does not (necessarily) require adult supervision and gives much more instant gratification. I do agree with some of the other reviewers that the time for the project to dry exceeds the stated time in the instructions, but if you've got multiple trays, that shouldn't be a problem if your child wants to move on to another design before one is dry.

To sum it up, this product is actually a hit with the kids, which makes me give it a good review. (They are now creating Christmas ornaments.) What this product needs is waaaaaay more beads, or a set that contains 2 or 3 THOUSAND beads (at a reasonable price) to keep the kids busy for days to come.

Not for Young Children
I was given this kit for a gift for my 6 year old child. I didn't have a clue what this was, but my 6 year old had seen it on TV and knew exactly what it was. After "I" figured it out, we put it all together (beads in the pen, pick a design to make, etc.) and attempted to 'create' one of the picture provided. We started to place the 'balls' in the right place and found that the pen would release more than one 'ball' at a time. Since you have to be so precise, my 6 year old lost patience quickly and I ended up finishing the picture.

Afterwards, we sprayed water on the beads and waited the 'ten minutes' recommended by the owners manual before picking it up. Within the first 3 minutes of 'picking it up', the beads started to seperate and we ended up putting the design back on it's holder to let it sit for a little longer. To make things short, it took a total of 7 days before it hardened enough to pick up and play with.

Also, this week we tried to make another and after 24 hours the 'design' started to curl up in the shape of a "U". So, again we were frustrated that no matter what we did, this whole experience was a disaster.

If your child hasn't developed the patience needed to 'wait' this long - I do not suggest buying this item.
