ilok...But does it work? |
All you folks are complaining about the software that requires an ilok, but nothing about the product (the ilok). Like it or not, it does what it is supposed to do!
Peace

God help you if something goes wrong |
Just wait until you try and register something under the wrong name. For example, I accidentally registered my Auto-tune under the wrong name. Anatares has no phone number to support this problem. Their web site doesn't deal with it. And ilok wants $25 to transfer the license. This is *after* paying for the software and paying for the ilok. This just sucks.
Minus five stars for this one.
I strongly recommend every avoiding any software that requires an ilok. Why should honest people get screwed like this after paying for the software? |

Software companies don't tell you when you buy that you need this |
I bought the Synthogy ivory pianos. The description didn't say I need the ILok. I got the software, tried to install it and nothing. Looked through the manual and nothing about the ilok was under "requirements" which is where I would assume the "requirements" for running the program would be. I called support and they told me I need to buy the ILok. Mac osx wouldn't run without it.
I understand the need for security and fighting piracy, but I agree with the previous reviewer it is frustrating. At the very least they should include in the software if you HAVE to have it to run the program. At the very least, make sure it's listed clearly so people know before they buy it.
Besides the added expense of the software, the ILok takes up a USB port that usually contains my back up drive.
If I had know this ahead of time, I probably would have gone with the acoustik pianos. |

An unfortunate necessity |
|
Unfortunately most people seem to pirate (illegally copy) anything that isn't nailed down. I vastly prefer this small key to the other onerous product activation schemes that make you send a lot of personal data to the vendor. This also make it quite easy to move the software around. I have used the site and the key with no problems for years. In my experience all sites will make it clear in their license information that you will need the key. Of course if you are new to buying "advanced amateur" or "professional" software you msy not think to look at the license terms before you buy. Given two equal pieces of software I would buy the one with no copy protection at all. Given the other choices I prefer this one. |

What A Rip |
I bought software that required the ilok and wasn't even told this until I tried to load it on my computer. The ilok site is hard to use and the whole process is a rip off. I think it's a bad joke.
I paid $300 for software and was then gouged for another $35 for some piece of plastic with a USB jack on the end of it, gimme' a break! |
