First I'd like to say music is open to everyone's own interpretation. Everything is not for everybody. I have been a percussionist for many years. I have recorded using over the ear head phones. Since purchasing these, I will never go back to over the ear headphones again. If the device you have has any form of EQ on it, I'd suggest adjusting the highs', mids and lows to your liking. Otherwise, for the price, these are indeed the best in ear headphones you can buy. Also, because they are in ear, make sure the headphones are pushed down or into the ear snug enough. You will get the full effect of the bass doing so. This also helps with canceling outside noise. Also try the different rubber ear pieces to see which fits in your ear better. I am finishing up a recording project gearing up to start another one after that. Incase anyone is interested in smooth jazz, look out for Gears in Motion at a store near you or online in the Spring of 09....Thanks to Denon for the wonderful headphones and Marketadvisory for the nice price. |

Great product for the price |

I thought the sound quality from these headphones was superb, a vast improvement over the standard iPod earbuds. Many songs I had listed to many times sounded entirely new as I could hear things that I hadn't heard before. I have to agree with other commenters that the principal drawback to these headphones is the awkward extension; the ordinary headphone cord is not long enough, for example, to reach one's waist, so one is left using a somewhat clunky extension. |

Great upgrade from mdr ex71 |
I bought these after my second pair of sony mdr-ex71s broke (one earbud went out). They are a definite upgrade from the sonys, both in sound and build quality. They sound similar to the ex71s overall, but high frequencies are less harsh and the bass is more under control. That's not to say the bass is lacking, these headphones are fun to listen to and have plenty of kick to them (I listen to mostly electronic and hip hop).
In terms of build quality, the aluminum housing is great and feels more robust than the sonys plastic body, yet they're still light enough to forget you're wearing them. The cord is stiffer than the sonys and has a cheaper waxy feel to it compared to the rubber of the ex71s. However, the ex71s cord is notorious for degrading over time (both of my pairs did) so hopefully the denons don't suffer the same fate. The cord is very microphonic, so these headphones are the best when you're relatively stationary. The rubber tips make a good seal with your ear and stay on the earbud very well. The tips on my sonys would fall off all the time and I'd have to go searching for them. The denon tips have yet to come off at all.
Overall these are great headphones, especially for the price. |

I'm a drummer, and needed these to have as in-ear monitors onstage to catch the sequences/clicktracks/and vocals that we use--they aren't noise cancelling enough for this purpose. I also agree with other reviews that I'd read of them, that although they produce more bass than other I-Pod replacement headphones their highs are pretty intense. My wife took them for a weekend trip and immediately gave them back to me saying "they are much clearer than my stock I-pod earphones but way too treble heavy". I'd have to agree--clear, good bass but highs are too high and not enough noise cancellation will relegate these to my desk drawer as a backup pair. |

Good sound for the price |

I bought the Denon AH-C551K about 6 months ago and for the amazon price of about $50, they are hard to beat. I used to recommend the sony ear buds to my friends as an upgrade to the cheap headphones that come with their music player but the denon have a much better sound. I also have the Shure E2c and SE210. The denon wins with the bass response and the Shure is better on the mid and high-end but they also cost more. Overall, an excellent value. |
