Great printer for the price
I have my L7590 set up in my office, and it's working fine over the network with a variety of operating systems. It took a little bit of effort to set up on the laptops running Windows Vista. On the Macs I installed the stuff from the CD, and then just used one of the pre-installed HP OfficeJet drivers instead of the one that came with the printer. The Linux computer took about 30 seconds to set up. The print quality is good, and this printer's a lot faster than the last one we had.

Avoid this Product at All Costs
After spending over 6 hours trying to get the software working on two different computers without any luck, I am returning my day older printer and avoiding buying any HP printer in the future. This is the second time I've tried to buy an HP all-in-one networked printer, and both times the included software (and updated version on HP's website) has failed to correctly install. Lesson learned: HP may make good printers, but they cannot produce software.

My recommendation is to avoid this printer at all costs if you plan on using it over a network.

Meets and maybe beats expectations...
Having used HP printers for many years, and most recently relied on a 7310 All-in-One unit for quite some time, I have high expectations for HP printers.... Thus far, I'm pleased with the 7590..its mechanical feed mechanism is solid, and consistently does what it is supposed to do...and nothing more. The print times are a noticeable improvement over prior models, and the color performance on photo quality items is quite good... My biggest complaint is that the drivers and set-up software contained in the box never seems to be sufficient to get HP printers working properly.... downloading the most current drivers from the HP Support site is, once again, a necessity. And, in addition, the HP Device Manager for this unit appears to be lacking something I really liked on the 7310 model... the ability to print in a "draft" setting... using considerably less ink and producing copies much faster.

Good Printer, Save $100 and buy at Costco
I saw this printer at Staples for $299 and then again at Costco 2 days later for $189. The initial setup takes forever around 30 minutes. **Warning** if you have the new Internet Explorer 8 beta version you will not be able to install the HP software. Once I uninstalled IE8, I had no problems other than taking 30 minutes. This printer has 6 cartridges. Yes, you read that right 6! There are two inside, one color and one black. Then there are 4 outside. Cyan, Yellow, Magenta, and Black. When I saw the price of the cartridges, I just hope that I don't have to replace these very often. They are a expensive separately or $46 if you buy the three colors together. So far no problems. I connected using a LAN cable. Couldn't figure out how to do wireless. I think you need a printer server which is between $70-$189.

Before this I had the HP 7310 for a year and a half until a little 5 cent plastic wheel broke inside making the entire printer worthless. It worked great and the ink lasted forever. I went through about 60 lbs of paper with only one cartridge change. Hopefully this new L7590 does the same.

nothing but trouble
After my recent experience with the HP 7590 All-in-One printer, I am not only replacing it with a different printer, but with a different brand. The short version of my printer woes is that I purchased the printer in August - and three months and three replacements later, I'm packing it up and returning it to Staples (who, unlike HP customer service, will just let me return it and replace it with a new printer). The series of printers/replacements worked for a total of 16 days - printed about 50 pages, and required a full set of replacement ink just to complete trouble shooting.
The long version is: The original quit working after two weeks (of limited home/business use). I went through 3 hours of online troubleshooting before the technician gave up and said they would send me a replacement. The replacement arrived - it was a refurbished printer, and I had to dismantle the original (remove ink cartridges, printheads, duplexer, front panel) and reconstruct the replacement - plus box up the original computer and take it to a FedEx location for return shipment. The 1st replacement lasted two days - and then gave me a new and different error message. So I repeated the process - 3 hours of tech support, followed by an offer of replacement, arrival of refurbished printer (take apart/reassemble/box and return/). The second replacement gave me a third set of error messages right from the start. I attempted to circumvent the online tech support, but found no other way to contact HP (I tried phone support, but was routed and re-routed through an infinite loop, and gave up after 45 minutes). When I initiated the online chat with tech support, I started off with the whole sad story of my printers, and how I really didn't want to go through another 3 hour process - I just wanted to send this one back and get a refund. Of course, that wasn't possible. Not only that, but the printer was now giving an error message that ink was low (between the 3 printers I had printed less than 50 actual pages, plus all the trouble shooting pages). The tech insisted that I change ink cartridges - at which I balked, knowing that it wouldn't fix the printer. However, at his insistence I put in $70 worth of replacement ink. The original error message appeared and he said something like, "Oh - so now we can send you a replacement printer." He reassured me repeatedly that "next printer will be perfect" but I badgered him into sending my case to a "higher power."
After about 10 days I got a letter and an e-mail from HP saying that the case manager had attempted to contact me, but had been unable to reach me. He had not called during the times I gave HP as convenient for me ( a three day period during which I stayed by the phone) - and he had not left a phone message. I replied to the e-mail with no response. I didn't reply to the phone message for more than a week, since my experience is that it takes about half a day of availability to deal with HP. The case had been closed because of my failure to respond!
Moral of the story: Avoid buying HP products in general, and the Officejet Pro 7590 in particular!
