The Gentle Leader SpraySense Collar uses patented SprayLogik technology to deliver a harmless burst of citronella spray to interrupt your dogs barking. It acts on four of your dog's five senses - he hears it, sees it, feels it and smells it. Citronella is a unique scent that most dogs don't normally encounter. It's non-offensive to humans yet unusual enough to distract your dog and interrupt the unwanted behavior. Shock and ultra-sonic collars attempt to reduce barking with pain. In addition to being less effective than spray, pain often increases anxiety and aggression and makes some behavior problems worse. When to use: The Gentle Leader SpraySense Collar can be used with any breed of dog that weighs 6 lbs. or more and is at least 6 months old. If your dog is smaller or younger please check first with your veterinarian. It is ideal for controlling general nuisance barking both indoors and outdoors. It is not recommended for anxiety-related barking unless specifically directed by a behavior profession. It does what it is supposed to |
|
In as much as this collar does what it is supposed to, that is, it sprays citronella when the dog barks, I gave it three stars. However, it hasn't really taught my dog anything about barking. When he wears the collar it does encourage him to bark less but as soon as the collar is off he barks as much as ever. I was hoping it would eventually help teach my dog not to bark even when not wearing it but that doesn't seem to be happening. |

Effective, but clunky. |

First I will declare it does work well; it has reduced my Pomeranians barking easily by 75%. Once the dog conditioned himself to recognize the collar, just puttting it on him he begins to curb his behavior. Like the literature states, if the barking is anxiety-based, this collar will not work for you. Our dog is 6 lbs, which is the bottom size limit per the advertised design and it's correct; this collar is unwieldly for small dogs due to the resevoir design. The module is spartan, it is a simple cube design and should have had a design that is smoother with rounded corners. The design from an ergonomic perspective is basic and simpleton; clearly there was not much thought put into it. I am satisfied with its performance and have not noticed any problems with the citrus agent; no residue noted on furniture and my dog doesn't smell like an orange. You will detect citrus smell when it does actuate. Be careful when holding the dog close if he is wearing it, you will get sprayed if he barks. The design has the module sagging at 30 degrees upwards under the dogs jaw/nose area, so whatever is directly infront of the dog will get misted. You can't prevent the sagging, it would require the collar to be dangerously tight. Definitely a more humane collar than shocking. I gave it only 4 stars because of the box design; functionality, it gets 5 stars. |

Works very well even on small dogs |

This collar has worked very well on our 5.5 lb chihuahua. She was quite a barker when out in the yard, but with this collar on she is a model citizen. While we don't leave this on her for very long periods of time (it is a bit heavy on her neck) it is really effective for short stints out into the yard to go potty. Great product! And I'm sure the neighbors appreciate it... |

It really works!! |
Similar products sell for triple the price at the big pet stores, so I was worried these would be too good to be true. I also wasn't sure that anything would deter my 2-yr-old Yorkies from barking their heads off.
First good sign: the collars arrived promptly!
Second good sign: they appear to be genuine brand-name collars!
Third good sign: they spray when tested!
Now to try them on the doggies!
The spray box looks kind of large on these little dogs, but it doesn't weigh much and it doesn't seem to inconvenience them any.
We put a collar on the more-barky of the two dogs, and left the other unopened for now. Then we knocked on the front door. As soon as they barked, the collar sprayed! BOTH DOGS IMMEDIATELY STOPPED BARKING!!!! To say they were very surprised would be an understatement!
We knocked again with the same result! We did it a third time and they didn't bark at all!
When we went out, we took the collar off the dog but left it on top of their crate. When we came home, they didn't bark!
It's only the second day, and even without using the collar, barking is much less! When we put the collar on, there is silence! This product can change your life! Buy now! |

Good place to start. |

I bought this product because my dog won't stop barking when tied up outside. When I first put it on her, she would bark and immediately get sprayed in the face. While it definitely helped her stop barking (at first), she quickly learned that if she barked enough, the collar would quickly empty and then she could continue to bark her little heart out. It was a pain to keep running outside to refill the collar as it doesn't hold enough spray at one time. She also went through 1 can of spray in 2 days. Another drawback, the dog smells after wearing the collar. I think the collar would work for the less determined dog but for us it was a fail. It may work if you are willing to keep refilling the collar every 10 minutes for a few days. It is a good place to start for those who don't want to use the shock collar like ourselves. |
