Given the pace of Michael Jackson's post-Thriller release schedule, it's striking that Off the Wall appeared between two albums with his brothers, Destiny (1978) and Triumph (1980), on which the twentysomething phenomenon was also fully engaged. Aided by richly detailed but not overdone production, Off the Wall redefined how much Michael might do. Tracks like "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough," "Rock with You," the title cut (all Top 10 singles), and "Burn this Disco Out" not only consolidated his dance-floor power, but showed just how soulful and varied his vocals could get on uptempo material. Artistic role models like James Brown and Jackie Wilson echo through the mixes, but these were Jackson's leaps forward. The addition of pure pop confection--Paul McCartney's "Girlfriend," Stevie Wonder's "I Can't Help It"--further fleshed out the star's young-adult persona and helped make Off the Wall among the most fondly remembered of all his solo work. This special edition features two magic home demos and entertaining, insightful interviews of producer Quincy Jones and "Rock with You" composer Rod Temperton. --Rickey Wright |

The BEST MJ album in my opinion! |
This album gives you a first taste of MJ's sound and soul as a solo artist.
I decided to buy the "cd" version of this because my cassette is coming apart :( haha.
But yes...every MJ fan must have this.
RIP MJ :) |

I love this album |
i love this album.. I grew up listening to Michael jackson and I was born when he was at the height of his career in 1982... Everyone in my family wanted to meet him and wanted to be him.. I think this album was probably the best album he has ever done. Although thriller took him to the next level but on this album he has a lot of classics and a lot of soul to it.I remember hearing stories about when michael and his brothers came to houston for there tours and it was the best concert u could have ever seen.. I wish I was born during the 70s just to see him in the height of his success. but he will live on through his music and the changes that he has made to the music industry in the 80s because that is what made him happy, Loving music and his fans!!!

Phenomenal |
I've been an MJ fan since he was 12 and I was 13.
This stands as a fantastic album. Everytime I listen to it I hear more (especially with the remaster).
I'm still in disbelief that you're gone, Michael. I'm tearful every time I listen to you, or watch your short films.
I love you more. |

Excellent, one of MJ's best!!!!! |
|
All the songs on this CD are fantastic, especially the title track, "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough," "Working Day and Night," and "She's Out of My Life." Also of interest are the two home demo recordings of "Don't Stop till You Get Enough" and "Working Day and Night." Anyone who is an MJ fan simply MUST have this CD. A real classic. |
