"We wanted a tough album," producer Quincy Jones recalls in a bonus interview on this special edition of Bad. Though the 1987 blockbuster would appear to be Michael Jackson's most personal statement to date--9 of its 11 cuts were written solely by him--its appeal also rested more on craft than the idiosyncratic art of Thriller and Off the Wall. At the same time, most of Bad has aged well in spite of its digital brittleness and MIDI treatments of gems like Jimmy Smith's organ solo on the title track. While the third best of his first three Epic solo discs, Bad carries a lot of what people love about Jackson's music. This disc also benefits from two fine outtakes, the exciting, uptempo "Streetwalker" and the Carpenters homage "Fly Away." Either could easily have extended the record's run of hit singles. --Rickey Wright |

Mickey Mouse Music in a Goofy Sleeve |

Peter Pan returned to Earth when this follow-up to THRILLER moved only about half as many copies. Jackson's audience would continue to dwindle with each subsequent release, perhaps owing as much to the Self-Proclaimed King of Pop's well-documented tangles with law enforcement as the quality of the albums themselves, yet Weird Al Yankovic nonetheless enjoyed tremendous success with his BAD-inspired music video, a rare example of a "cover" improving upon an original recording. |

Great Album |
|
This albums only failing is that it came after Thriller LOL :-) Lets face it if Thriller had never been then this would be Michael's premier album, nuff said!! Its that good. I don't think there has ever been, or will ever be a solo artist to accomplish three great albums in a row! Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad. What a tour de force of MJ. If you include the Destiny and Triumph albums that he carried with his brothers before hand then this dude was on a creative tear that touched three decades, unprecedented! He'll be missed. |

Bad |
This CD is definantly MJ's greatest work in terms of the fact that he wrote 9 of the 11 songs. This CD is as good as Off the Wall and Thriller. I like all three equally for different reasons. So, if you have not bought this CD or any other MJ CD, I would highly suggest that you buy them. Regardless of his press, history clearly shows that he has made a lot of people very, very happy. A remarkable entertainer.

Love it !! Love it!! Love it!!! |
|
I bought this (and Dangerous) for replacements for the original cassettes that I bought when they were originally released. I love every song from "Bad" to hard rocking "Dirty Diana" to the beautiful "Man in the Mirror". I also love the bonus track, "Streetwalker". Makes me want to dance!! |
