Editorial Reviews for  'On My Way Here'

Album Description
Since shooting to stardom on the second season of American Idol, Clay Aiken, the Raleigh, NC, native with the powerhouse voice has become a international pop phenomenon who has sold six million albums. In addition, Aiken has launched eight live tours, made the New York Times best-seller list, and won several American Music and Billboard Music Awards. In January 2008, Aiken made his Broadway debut in the Tony Award-winning musical Monty Python's Spamalot.

When Clay began the search for songs to record for Aiken's first album of original material since his 2003 chart-topping debut Measure of A Man, he fell in love with a song written by OneRepublic front man Ryan "Alias" Tedder called "On My Way Here." The message of the lyrics -- how the lessons we learn while growing up shape us into who we become as adults -- struck such a deep chord with Aiken that it wound up inspiring the theme (and title) of his new collection.

To musically represent the album's lyrical theme, Aiken and Foster enlisted Grammy-Award winning British songwriter and producer Kipper, who has worked with Sting, Chris Botti, and Julia Fordham.

Something For Everyone!
I really liked this CD! I especially love the up tempo songs: Everything I Dont Need is my favorite! Ashes is perfect for AC radio! Where I Draw the Line is a little country. Something for everyone!

Give it a try!

Wonderful Heartfelt Music
I have enjoyed Clay Akin's voice and style on his prevous albums, but they were not at the top of my "playlist." But this is a very different album in a number of ways. He has the same great voice, but this album is filled wit songs that have real meaning. In every song you can hear that he is saying something from the heart, and it seems to be very personal. This is the mark of an excellent artist -- he makes the listener feel what he is singng. If you like his style with the ballads and great vocals then I would wholeheartedly recommend this album.

One of my favorite CDs of the year.
I'm loving this album. There are range of genres, from light jazz, to ballads, to pure pop. Great melodies, meaningful lyrics, beautifully crafted production -- and sung by one of the best male pop vocalists recording today. (Amazes me what he can do with his voice.) If you're not a fan, put aside any preconceived notions and give it a listen. You don't have to be a Clay Aiken fan to enjoy this; it's a good, solid, eclectic, and totally enjoyable CD.

A More Mature Clay Aiken
Clay Aiken's new CD ON MY WAY HERE reveals a more mature and polished sound. He always had a great voice but it is even better now. I would have liked some more up-beat selections, however, the songs are all good. The music presents a reflective mode which is thought provoking.
Enjoy!

Walking Through Fire
After pre-ordering this CD and playing it through three times straight, I find myself sticking it back in the changer, hoping to like it more. There are some bright moments. "Ashes" is a decent track Keith Carlock's drums sounding fresh, "Maybe love requires walking through the fire." "Weight of the World" co-written by Franne Gold has a distinctive melody which releases Clay to hit the soaring notes he does so well and has good guitar interplay. "As Long As We're Here" spiced with a Celtic flavor is another great piece of Aiken tracks, "Alive on this earth, I'm gonna love you, For all that it's worth & one of these days, we're gonna understand why." For me, one of the problems seems to be the production team packaging Clay's music. "Something About Us" is actually a good song co-written by Regie Hamm whose American Dreams album had its moments. However, the producers wash the track in a string arrangement that makes Clay's sound antiquated and schmaltzy. "Falling" pumps up the pep, but its melody sounds like 75 other songs. On "The Real Me" Clay sings with strength and vulnerability while the arranger again drenches the track in schmaltzy strings. Tracks like "Sacrificial Love" and "The Real Me" don't connect with me. Unlike Clay's A Thousand Different Ways which was creative and gripping, "On My Way Here" sounds like product. It has enough bright moments to make the CD worth playing a few times. Enjoy!
