Customer Reviews for  'Logitech V220 Cordless Optical Mouse for Notebooks (Dark Silver)'

A superb little mouse in every respect
My ten year old Mac "inverted hubcap" G4 desktop computer has been in the shop off-and-on for two months trying to get the accursed Safari 4 so-called "upgrade" removed. Meanwhile, I bought a great little like-new wireless Mac G4 ibook (running OSX 10.5) off Marketadvisory for $208 to keep me going. I've used track pads for years and am OK with them, but I prefer a mouse. I have always had good luck with Logitech products so I bought a refurbished, guaranteed, VX220 mouse from a Verizon vender for only $9. It came in a plastic bag, along with a spare USB accessory cable, and no instructions. Slipping the little USB receiver unit out of its slot on the bottom of the mouse reveals a little switch marked "off/on," a reset button marked "reset," and a press button with a battery symbol printed on it. Everything was self evident. I pressed the battery cover release button firmly and the cover released, revealing a small battery compartment marked "AA" and a + sign at one end. After inserting an AA battery, snapping the cover back in place, and inserting the tiny receiver into a USB slot on the notebook, the mouse was fully functional. Interestingly, the notebook trackpad was also still functional. I could use either one, as I chose.

Some have said the mouse is a bit too small, but I find it a perfect size, better than the larger clunky mouse of my ailing desktop Mac. The wheel is comfortably large and scrolls with precision up and down and side to side. The clicker has just the right amount of resistance. I have yet to find a surface or color the sensor doesn't like, including skin and glass. The USB mouse receiver has a little dog-leg slot that, when the receiver is re-inserted in place on the bottom of the mouse, engages the little on/off switch and automatically switches off the power, saving battery life. Logitech says the battery should last upward of six months. I use rechargeable NiMH batteries so battery power isn't an issue, but I always switch it off anyway out of habit. Some have complained that the VX220 receiver has only about a 4-foot range. If you need to type while using the mouse, and your arms are more than four feet long, this could be an issue. In that case the mouse USB receiver could be plugged into one end of the USB accessory cable and the other cable end plugged into the notebook, giving you greater range. My mouse has never been too far from the computer to work. It functions out to 6 feet, measured, further away than I can use the laptop monitor.

In summary, the little mouse is extremely well thought out ergonomically and easy to use. I have absolutely no complaints so far. I might even buy another another one for my big Mac when I get it back.

Great Mouse, but short range
The mouse is great, setup was easy, etc. The only problem is that the effective range is only about 3 feet. So if you were planning to use it to control a computer 10 feet away, it won't work. But other than that it's great.

Logitech V220 Cordless
I have used Logitech and Microsoft products. Made the mistake of buying a microsoft wireless mouse in between purchases but it would never work properly. The Logitech mouse is better by far!

After 9+ months of abuse, still good as new!
I needed a new cordless optical mouse at the end of 2009. I wanted something small, because I have small hands, so a netbook or laptop mouse was just the thing. I had qualms about buying it without getting to hold it in my hand, but once I got the mouse, they were quickly eased. This mouse plugs into a USB port and has survived being dropped on a wooden floor I don't know how many times; I've lost count. The battery cover comes off, but seldom does the battery itself do the same. On two particularly bad drops, the scroll wheel became non-functional. It turned out it had just been knocked partly to one side and popped easily back into place and continues to work as new. There is an on/off button on the bottom of the mouse, which can help stretch out the life of the single AA battery it uses, and if you're going to be away from the computer for an undetermined amount of time, it just takes a moment to turn the mouse off so what you're working on isn't disturbed. There is also a small button on the bottom that you can press to open the mouse to change the battery. The scroll wheel feels like you're rolling over bumps, but I like the textural sensation compared to that of smooth feeling wheels. It's obviously a matter of personal choice as to what you prefer. When I use my laptop in the living room, I don't even use a mousepad as it works fine on the arm of my recliner. The only things I don't like about it are that it can accumulate dirt in the on/off switch slot, but a safety pin or small screwdriver removes any 'gunk' easily. The sides are textured to be slightly tacky for a secure grip, which means they need an occasional cleaning. These are extremely minor issues for me. I would recommend this and buy this model again if I needed another mouse.

Good enough.
good enough for what you need. the color is right on target, not to tenebrous. fits hand good enough. a good choice if your looking for a wireless mouse.
